- The comparison to other damaged areas is the same and valid. The first headlines from an urban area are for federal aid. The first headlines from small towns are about neighbors helping. Just because the sheer numbers of victims is more than another location, doesn't make it a bigger disaster.

- JKLD - Actually the designation as monument closes it to open public access because after the designation, it is closed until a management plan is written and accepted for it. That usually takes about 5 years of more.

- About Freaking time! He has been the greatest waste of space in the Senate! He only gets re-elected because of unions and the fact Iowans tend to let you stay as long as you don't screw up. For such a long tenure, he has wielded little power in the Senate. He never gets mentioned.
